Student taken into custody for making implicit threats in Warsaw, Missouri.

WARSAW, Missouri (KY3) – A juvenile is in custody accused of making an implicit threat to shoot during the upcoming homecoming parade. Benton County Sheriff's officials notified school resource officers and the Warsaw Police Chief of the threat on Monday.

The suspect was located and taken into custody after questioning several people.

The sheriff's office stressed the importance of quick action by other students who alerted their parents, who then contacted police.

It is important to remind everyone that even if comments are made in jest or intended for a small circle of friends, all it takes is for one person to feel uncomfortable and report it, and this can lead to a very serious investigation, as law enforcement cannot assume that a threat, implied or otherwise, is not real, the sheriff's office wrote on its Facebook page.

The sheriff's office further said that they always view shooting threats with the utmost seriousness because they pose an imminent threat to public safety and the potential for devastating harm. Any threat, whether direct or implied, carries the possibility of significant violence and loss of life.
