According to reports, the new chief minister-designate Atishi holds Rs 39 lakh in bank fixed deposits and a Rs 5 lakh insurance policy. She has Rs 1.41 crore in deposits and only Rs 20,000 in cash.

Delhi Education Minister Atishi is set to replace Arvind Kejriwal as the capital's next chief minister. Let's take a look at her career as she takes up her new post.

After studying at Delhi University and Oxford University, Atishi started her career as a teacher. She then joined an NGO. However, in 2013, she quit her job and started her political career with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Despite working for years and rising in AAP politics, Atishi has assets of only Rs 1.41 crore, according to the Kalkaji MP's affidavit before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. This information is available on My Neta, a partner site of ADR (Association for Democratic Reform).

According to information on the National Election Watch website, Atishi has only Rs 20,000 in cash, while she has deposits of over Rs 141 million in banks and other financial institutions, including her husband's income.

Atishi has two bank fixed deposits worth Rs 39 lakh in her name. She has an insurance policy of more than Rs 5 lakh in her name. Surprisingly, Atishi does not own a car, jewellery or any other property. She has never taken a loan from a bank.

Atishi is considered one of the strong women leaders of her party. It was reported that Atishi boosted the morale of the party workers during difficult times when AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia were in jail following their arrest in connection with Delhi's liquor policy.

Earlier, Atishi had thanked her “guru” Arvind Kejriwal for the “huge responsibility” entrusted to her in succeeding him as Delhi Chief Minister. She said she would work under his “guidance” to protect the interests of the people from the obstructions of the BJP.

Atishi is expected to become the capital's third female chief minister after Sheila Dikshit of the Congress Party and Sushma Swaraj of the BJP.

Hours after she was unanimously elected chief minister, she said Kejirwal's impending resignation was both a moment of joy and “utmost sadness”.

Kejriwal proposed Atishi's name at the party meeting at his residence and received unanimous support from the AAP MPs.
