Man dies in work accident in Carlow

A man in his 70s died in an industrial accident in County Carlow on Monday.

Emergency services were called to a property near the town of Tullow, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has been taken to University Hospital Waterford (UHW) where a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.

The coroner's office has been notified and a file is being prepared for the court.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) was also on site and is conducting an investigation as part of the protocol.

In a statement, the Gardaí confirmed that they and emergency services were informed on Monday morning “of a fatal industrial accident at a site near Tullow, Co. Carlow”.

Gardaí continued: “A man in his 70s was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford where a post mortem will take place in due course.

“The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) was notified and attended the scene.

“A file is being prepared for the investigative court.”
