Skin discoloration is just one side effect that can occur when overconsuming healthy foods, writes Consumer Reports, the world's largest consumer organization.

Healthy foods – can you eat too much of them?

Consumer Reports points out that it can be harmful to focus on certain food groups – even if they are actually considered healthy.

A discolored skin tone may not be visually appealing, but is otherwise harmless. In addition to carrots, sweet potatoes can also have a coloring effect. However, they provide a lot of vitamin A, which is good for the eyes.

However, the situation is different when absolutely healthy foods cause illness than with skin discoloration.

Too much fiber leads to flatulence

Too much fiber can cause metabolic problems. Fiber is found in many fruits and vegetables: beans, whole grains or corn – all great sources of fiber.

However, excessive consumption leads to a feeling of bloating, which can be very painful. Gases are produced during digestion, which in large quantities put our digestive tract under a lot of pressure. In addition, the absorption of nutrients in general can be negatively affected.

Too much protein can lead to osteoporosis

Not everyone can eat fish, chicken and tofu without worrying: the high protein content of the food can lead to kidney and liver problems and, in the worst case, even osteoporosis.

You can get enough protein – without overloading your meals – if you eat a balanced diet.

Should be hot: appropriate portions in a mix of carbohydrates, protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals.

Consumer Reports also notes that the healthiest people are those who eat a wide variety of foods and can avoid the need for supplements. Having a favorite vegetable is also perfectly fine, as long as you don't stick to it exclusively.
