Wigan paedophile who sexually abused his victims sentenced to over 50 years in prison

The jury at Bolton Crown Court found Wilson, of Bowling Green Row, guilty of 23 other sexual offences against children and adults, including indecent assault and rape.

According to police, a “terrifying pattern” of abusive behavior began in 1972 when Wilson was 14 years old. Over the course of 51 years, Wilson abused seven victims.

He subjected these victims to deeply traumatising experiences ranging from inappropriate advances to coercion and rape, GMP said.

Over the years, Wilson's predatory behavior escalated as he manipulated and exploited his victims, destroying their innocence and trust, the police statement said.

According to police, the decades of abuse came to light last year when Wilson was arrested at home on suspicion of sexually abusing a child after one of his victims made an “incredibly brave” confession.

This led to a thorough search of his belongings, during which two mobile phones, a CD in an envelope and a small camera with an SD card were found.

The police also seized a hidden camera, which contained not only the mobile phones but also videos showing the exploitation of a female child aged between six and eight years.

The videos fell into the category of first generation Type A indecent images of children and depicted deeply disturbing and sadistic acts, GMP said.

Later, evidence of further victims was discovered.
