Histon man raped woman in ‘cruel’ attack

A Histon man who assaulted and raped a woman in a “cruel” attack has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Jake Brown, 25, attacked the woman in the early hours of January 21 at a property in Peterborough.

He repeatedly punched and bit her before pressing his thumbs into her eyes, which the victim described as an attempt to gouge her out.

He then raped her before she finally managed to escape and get help using a neighbor's cell phone.

Brown stole the woman's phone and fled, but was arrested later that day at Peterborough train station.

Brown, of St Audrey Close, Histon, denied charges of rape, assault, false imprisonment, sexual assault, criminal damage and theft. He was found guilty of all charges following a trial at Peterborough Crown Court last month.

On Friday (September 13), Brown was sentenced to 12 years in prison, suspended for a further three years, and placed on the sex offenders' register for life in the same court.

Det Con Helen Williams said: “Brown subjected the victim in this case to a cruel and sustained attack. I am pleased he has appeared in court and been jailed for this horrific crime.”

“I would like to thank the victim for the courage she has shown during the investigation and the trial. I hope that the conclusion of the legal proceedings will help her to rebuild her life.

“We will continue to do everything in our power to support victims of sexual crimes and bring perpetrators to justice.”
