Accident A7: Without lights and at 200 km/h

Homberg (Efze) – On Monday evening, the A7 There is a risk of a serious traffic accident between the Homberg/Efze junction and the “Am Pommer” car park, which was probably preceded by an illegal car race.

According to a corresponding police report, the rescue control center and the police received several emergency calls at around 7:22 p.m. reporting a heavily damaged van and a BMW on the central guardrail.

According to initial police investigations, a 30-year-old man from Wächtersbach was driving his BMW 5 Series at high speed on the A7 towards the south.

Eyewitnesses stated that the driver was involved in an illegal race with a dark Audi A6.

Both vehicles are said to have been travelling at around 200 km/h and without keeping a safe distance. Witnesses also reported that the BMW was driving without its lights on at times.

In the winding uphill section in front of the “Am Pommer” car park, the BMW eventually collided with a small van from Reutlingen. The 59-year-old driver of the van was fortunately uninjured.

After the collision, the BMW hit the central guardrail, was thrown into the air, hit the guardrail after about 20 meters and then slid along it for about 90 meters before coming to a stop.

Although the BMW driver appeared to be miraculously uninjured, he was taken to hospital for examination on the advice of an emergency doctor.

The material damage from the accident is estimated at around 20,000 euros. A tow truck with a crane had to be used to recover the BMW.

During the accident investigation, which was completed at around 10:40 p.m., there were no major traffic disruptions.

The police are now investigating on suspicion of an illegal motor vehicle race.
