Teenager from Hyderabad drowns during birthday party in lake in Canada

A birthday celebration took a tragic turn after a city youth drowned while swimming in a lake in Canada, his family said in Hyderabad on Monday (September 16, 2024).

Praneeth, a resident of Meerpet in Ranga Reddy district, had completed his studies in Canada and was looking for a job there.

The victim had moved to Canada to study in 2019, while his older brother immigrated in 2022.

“Both of them, along with other friends, visited the lake to celebrate Praneeth's birthday on Saturday. On Sunday, they went swimming. While all of them returned, the younger one (Praneeth) did not return,” the grieving father told reporters.

After receiving the information, rescue teams arrived at the scene and the body was recovered.

The news reached the family in Hyderabad on Monday through friends of their sons, the father said, and asked the state and central governments for help in bringing the body back to India.
