Appleton woman charged with knife attack on boyfriend

APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) – A woman was formally charged Monday with stabbing her boyfriend to death in July.

Last Friday, Appleton police investigators booked a 39-year-old Appleton woman named Samantha J. Krebs into the Outagamie County Jail. Police said Krebs has been in custody since July.

Krebs was charged in court on Monday with first-degree intentional manslaughter.

Police responded to a residence in the 2800 block of North Park Drive Lane just before 10 p.m. on July 18 where they found an injured man. Although life-saving measures were administered, police reported the man was dead.

According to the criminal complaint, a witness told police: “[Krebs] let me in, went into the apartment, [the victim] was lying on the linoleum in the kitchen…she looked me straight in the eyes and said, “Just tell the police he stabbed himself.”

Another witness said he heard Krebs say, “I can't go back to jail, I can't go back to jail,” and that Krebs then left the scene before police arrived, the complaint said.

According to the charges, when Krebs was later taken into custody, an officer overheard her saying she had just lost her fiancé, and then she made the comment that he had stabbed himself.

According to the lawsuit, “Sergeant Hoffman told her he was sorry to hear that and asked if it had happened recently. The defendant, Samantha Krebs, stated it happened Thursday night and then she learned from the newspaper that he had died.”

“Shortly thereafter, while waiting for other units to arrive for assistance, Sergeant Hoffman was standing in the parking lot with Samantha and Officer Rudebeck. At one point, Samantha made the statement, 'I just watched my fiancé kill himself and now I'm being arrested.' It should be noted that Samantha had initially claimed that her fiancé had stabbed himself and that she had learned from the newspaper that he had died. Now she made the statement that she had watched her fiancé kill himself,” the complaint states.

If convicted, Krebs faces a life sentence.
