A man is dead and a woman is seriously injured after what is believed to be a domestic violence incident in Milford, officials said Monday afternoon.

Milford police responded to 80 South Bow Street around 9 a.m. Monday and found a married couple in their apartment in an apartment building, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early said at a news conference Monday.

Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino said during the press conference that he was among the first emergency responders to arrive on the scene.

The woman was found with numerous stab wounds and had lost a significant amount of blood, Tusino said. She was taken to the hospital for surgery and was in critical condition Monday afternoon, Early said.

The prosecutor said police found her husband in the basement with a stab wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The couple has four children, ages 5, 7, 10 and 14, who were at school at the time of the incident, Early said. The children are currently staying with family members.

Tusino said there is no danger to the public and authorities believe “everyone involved has been arrested.” He said he did not have enough information to say who the perpetrator of the domestic violence incident was.

What happened in Milford on Monday morning?

Police received a 911 call requesting assistance from the South Bow Street home. When Tusino and other officers arrived, he said the atmosphere was “chaotic.”

“There were people outside. There was a significant language barrier,” he said. “There was a lot of pointing at the house.”

Tusino said the woman was initially “fatally injured.” Early told reporters the woman was resuscitated by Tusino and another dispatcher, both of whom are trained emergency medical technicians.

“She was gone. They brought her back,” Early said.

Police have not been able to identify the couple because the entire family has not yet been notified, the prosecutor said. The investigation is still ongoing.

“She has had some serious operations and we are of course hoping for a good outcome for her, but we are cautiously optimistic,” said Tusino.
