Woman, 32, charged with murder after another woman was stabbed to death in Tower Hamlets block of flats – victim's name to be revealed

A woman has been charged with murder after another woman was stabbed to death in an east London apartment block.

Shortly after 1am on Sunday morning, police were called to an address in Duckett Street, Tower Hamlets, because a woman had suffered stab wounds.

Hope Rowe, 32, was due to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court this morning. She is also charged with being in possession of a knife.

Officials are convinced that the deceased is 31-year-old Charlotte Lawler, but are still waiting for an official identification.

Another suspect, a 37-year-old man, was released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting a crime.

The London Ambulance Service and the Metropolitan Police were on site, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her next of kin have been informed and are being cared for by specialist staff.

While investigations into the incident continue, a crime scene can still be seen at the address.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed that the people involved “appear to know each other” and that no one else is being sought in connection with the incident.

Assistant Detective Chief Inspector Ben Dalloway, of the Met's Specialist Crime Command, said: “This is a tragic incident which resulted in the death of a young woman. Those involved appear to know each other and were present at the address during the course of the evening.”

“Although this investigation is still in its early stages, we have already made significant progress and arrested two people. We are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

“Officers will continue to carry out essential work on site and I ask residents to be patient during this time. I would also ask that anyone who has seen anything or has information that could help us please come forward.”

Detective Superintendent Mike Cagney, of the Central East Command Unit, which covers Tower Hamlets, said: “My thoughts are with the family of this young woman at this difficult time.”

“Following this horrific incident, my officers are working closely with our specialist colleagues to understand exactly what happened.

“Over the coming days, local officers will be out and about in Duckett Street and the surrounding area to provide reassurance to the community, but also to give anyone who has concerns or information about this incident the opportunity to speak to us.”

Mr Cagney confirmed that the crime scene on Duckett Street is still where it is and that local officers will be on site to “provide the community with the reassurance it needs”.

As the investigation is still ongoing, he urged anyone with information that could help the police to call 101 and Price: 480 CAD/September 15th.
