30-year-old man shot dead in Benson on Saturday

A 30-year-old man was shot and killed in Benson on Saturday.

According to a Benson Police Department news release, police responded to reports of shots fired in the 300 block of East Walker Street around 5 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim, identified as Christian D. Bennett, suffering from gunshot wounds, the news release said. Bennett died en route to the hospital.

The suspect, 20-year-old Austin D. Kyes, was located near the crime scene and arrested without incident, the press release said.

Benson police determined that an argument between Kyes and Bennett escalated into a physical altercation and shots were allegedly fired, the news release said.

Kyes was arrested on suspicion of premeditated murder.
