Five members of a family mown down by trucks, four injured

In a tragic incident, five members of a family sitting on a road in Sambhal were killed and four injured when they were run over by a speeding pickup truck early Monday morning, police said.

The injured were taken to Aligarh for treatment while the driver of the vehicle was detained, it said. The driver of the pickup truck also sustained injuries.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has learned about the accident and asked the officials concerned to immediately take the injured to the hospital and ensure they receive proper treatment.

The Prime Minister also instructed the district administration officials to come to the scene of the accident and speed up the relief work.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Krishan Kumar said that around 6 am, some people from Bhopatpur village were sitting on the roadside when they were hit by a vehicle coming from Gawa.

Liladhar (60), Dharamal (40), Ompal (32) and Puran Singh (45) died on the spot, the SP said.

Police said the injured were immediately taken to the community health centre in Rajpura from where they were sent to Aligarh. Jamuna Prasad (60) died during treatment.

According to SP, all nine people involved in the accident came from the same family.

The driver of the pickup truck was also injured in the accident, he said. The bodies have been sent for autopsy, the SP said. Sambhal District Magistrate Rajendra Singh Pensia, who visited the accident site, said the condition of two persons was serious. He added that the driver may have dozed off, which may have caused the accident.
