Tarisai Musakanda arrested for attempted murder

Tarisai Musakanda, a Zimbabwean cricketer, was arrested for attempted murder following a serious altercation with his wife Tinodiwanashe Makunike.

Musakanda, who last played cricket for the Zimbabwe national team nearly two years ago, has had a turbulent personal life. This latest incident comes on top of his existing legal troubles, including a previous charge related to a fatal car crash in 2022.

Domestic dispute escalates

According to police spokesman Paul Nyathi, the dispute between Musakanda and his wife began when she hired two men to erect a shelter at her stall. When the workers returned to collect payment, the situation quickly spiralled out of control and led to a violent altercation in which Musakanda was involved.

Neighbourhood witnesses were alerted by Tinodiwanashe's screams coming from the house early in the morning around 3 a.m. Neighbours rushed to the scene in response to the cries for help and reportedly found Musakanda with a knife in his hand.

Testimony and a history of domestic violence

One of the neighbors, who wished to remain anonymous, described the terrible events.

“We were awakened by shouts. Mai Dewei was calling for help, so we rushed over. When we arrived, we saw Musakanda holding a knife and his wife was trying to protect herself, but she was injured. After we were able to intervene, we saw that she had been stabbed in the back and we immediately took her to the hospital.”

The neighbor also mentioned that this was not the couple's first physical altercation. The witness added:

They have had many fights in the past. Musakanda even hit her with a stick once. This time it got worse and we had to intervene before it became fatal.
