Live updates on Trump’s assassination: Former US President and Republican candidate for the 2024 US elections, Donald Trump, has reportedly survived a second assassination attempt after shots were fired near the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida on September 15, 2024.

This gun incident came just months before the November 2024 U.S. presidential election and just two months after Trump was first shot at during a campaign rally. The AP reported that U.S. Secret Service agents opened fire after seeing a person with a firearm near the golf course on Sunday.

An AK-type firearm was found near the golf course, the AP reported.

Spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) that the Secret Service was investigating “a security incident involving Trump” that occurred shortly before 2 p.m. on September 15.

Trump Safe

In a fundraising email, Trump reassured his supporters and addressed the situation: “There was a shooting near me, but I want you to hear this from me first: I AM SAFE AND I AM FINE! Before rumors take over, you should know that I am fine. Nothing will stop me. I will NEVER SUCCEED! I will always appreciate your support.”

Steven Cheung, communications director for Trump's campaign, said in a statement that the 2024 Republican presidential candidate was “safe following the shooting near him,” but did not provide further details.

Shooter identified as Ryan Routh

The suspect was identified as Ryan Wesley Routh. He was arrested by authorities and the attack is under investigation, AP reported, citing officials.

Routh allegedly dropped his weapon and fled in an SUV. He was later arrested in a neighboring county, authorities told AP. His motive is unclear.

Local authorities said the shooter was carrying two backpacks and a GoPro camera hanging from a fence.

According to online records from the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, Routh was convicted of possession of a weapon of mass destruction in 2002.
