Paul Finebaum provides humorous justification for Heisman prediction for Arch Manning

Paul Finebaum watched as Arch Manning filled in for the injured Quinn Ewers on Saturday night in Austin. After Ewers left the field in the 56-7 win over UTSA, Manning threw for 223 yards and four touchdowns and also scored a 67-yard touchdown run. That run was the longest touchdown run by a Texas quarterback since Vince Young in 2005.

After Saturday night's game, Finebaum guaranteed that Manning would win a Heisman Trophy during his time at Texas. Finebaum discussed that prediction on Monday's “Morning” with McElroy and Cubelic.

“I was asked if I thought Arch would do something that none of the Mannings had ever done,” Finebaum said. “I felt like if I said no, I would really disappoint the producers of SportsCenter. And you know me, Greg, I never like to leave these guys hungry. The answer is 1 (Heisman for Arch).”

Ewers' injury is not as serious as initially expected. He is expected to miss the game against Louisiana Monroe due to his abdominal injury, but after that he will be used week to week.

While there could be a lot of drama over who will start the rest of the season, Finebaum doesn't believe there will be a controversy over the quarterback position.

“I don't think so,” Finebaum said. “And we're talking about a guy who understands his role. I think (Arch) had his moment on Saturday. I think Arch Manning is probably the most grounded QB in college football, based on what I observe from afar.”

Right now, it looks like Manning will be back on the field for Texas next weekend, but it's still Ewers' team.
