73-year-old man arrested for sexually assaulting 9-year-old girl in Maharashtra: Police

Mumbai:

A pensioner was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting his daughter's nine-year-old schoolgirl in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra state, police said on Monday.

Acting on a complaint from the girl's family, police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Sunday and arrested the 73-year-old accused, an official said.

The incident occurred in the Radhanagari area in the first week of September, he said.

The accused's daughter was giving tutoring classes and the girl was one of her students. The girl complained to her aunt that the accused had sexually harassed her, the official said.

The accused is in police custody and further investigations are ongoing, he said.
