La Fuerza NC | Groups work to organize and register Latino voters at La Fiesta Del Pueblo in Raleigh

RALEIGH, NC (WTVD) – A central goal of the nonprofit organization La Fuerza NC is to get more people in the Latino community involved in local government.

The organization sent volunteers to La Fiesta Del Pueblo in downtown Raleigh on Sunday to help with voter registration.

Gaby Garcia-Vera, deputy executive director of La Fuerza NC, said they are the least represented in the legislature in North Carolina.

“When we look at the people in power, they don't look like us. They don't sound like us,” she said. “For us, it's about doing our part to make sure our people are not only seen, but counted and heard in the way they want to be.”

ABC11 also spoke with La Fuerza NC volunteer Alberto Hernandez, who regularly works to educate, register and empower more people to vote.

“Many of our community are afraid to vote simply because of the local impact of current political developments and the future of everything, but it is extremely important for anyone listening to make sure that if you can vote, you vote,” Hernandez said.

Voters in North Carolina have until October 11 to register if they plan to vote on Election Day, November 5.

Early voting will take place from October 17 to November 2. Same-day registration is available during this time.
