The panicked mother-to-be is forced to turn to her hapless father Malcolm (played by David) after he learns that her sister Catherine (Sharon Rooney) is in prison and her mother Davina, played by Susan Lynch, enjoys traveling the world to find herself.

At the end of the series, Gemma went into labor in Rita's (Sarah Hadland) salon and then gave birth to baby Sadie, accompanied by her friends Cherry (Taj Atwal) and Xander, played by Arian Nik.

Gemma's father Malcolm rushes to get to the hospital in time, with his toxic boyfriend Derek (played by David Fynn) in tow.

But unexpectedly a face from the past appears and turns everything upside down.

The “Sex Education” star told the BBC that working on “Daddy Issues” was “the most fun I’ve ever had on a job” and said she was looking forward to starting the second series.

She added: “I just know it's going to be incredibly funny and heartwarming.”

Aimee's comedic partner David also raved about starring in a second series, saying he was “delighted” and excited to be working with Aimee again.

The genius behind the BBC hit show, Danielle Ward, said: “A second season? And I only found out about it by reading this press release? Unbelievable.

“I'm so excited to be writing for Aimee and David (and the rest of this amazing cast) again. I love the Moscrips and can't wait to continue their adventures. Of course, a little break would be nice, but my hair will grow back, right?”

Behind the successful comedy, which was produced by the makers of “The Inbetweeners”, is a star team, including director Damon Beesley, who also directed the successful BBC drama “White Gold”.

The announcement comes after the BAFTA Award-winning actress revealed her budding career hit a roadblock when she auditioned for the HBO hit The White Lotus.

Aimee revealed that the producers of White Lotus Season Tree did not like her American accent and asked her to stick with her native Manchester dialect instead.

The actress revealed that she performed in several auditions using her usual voice and American accent, but producers ultimately chose her Manchester accent.

The star broke out with her role in the hit Netflix coming-of-age drama and has since appeared in films such as “The Electrical Life of Louis Wain,” “Seize Them!” and “Living.”
