“There is no place for violence”: Kamala Harris, Biden and others react to the second assassination attempt on Trump before the US elections

Former President of the United States and Republican candidate for the 2024 U.S. elections, Donald Trump, survived a second assassination attempt after shots were fired near the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida, on September 15, 2024.

Reactions to the 2nd attack

Kamala Harris, the current US Vice President and Democratic candidate, wrote to X: “I have been informed of reports that shots were fired near former President Trump and his Florida estate, and I am glad he is safe.” “Violence has no place in America,” she added.

President Biden wrote: “I was briefed by my team on what federal law enforcement is investigating today as a possible assassination attempt against former President Trump. A suspect is in custody, and I commend the work of the Secret Service and its law enforcement partners for their vigilance and efforts to protect the former President and those around him.”

He added: “I am relieved that the former President is unharmed. The incident remains under investigation as law enforcement gathers more details about what happened. As I have said many times, there is no place for political violence, or violence at all, in our country, and I have directed my team to continue to ensure that the Secret Service has all the necessary resources, capabilities, and protections to ensure the former President's continued safety.”

In response to the news of another shooting incident involving former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump, his supporter Elon Musk took to social media to question the lack of assassination attempts on his rivals Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

He wrote: “And no one is trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala”

Vivek Ramaswamy expressed relief that Trump was safe, but condemned the rising trend of political violence, calling it unacceptable and un-American. He also called on the Secret Service to increase Trump's protection to the same level as President Biden's. He wrote, “Yes, we are grateful that President Trump is once again safe. But this growing pattern of political violence must STOP immediately. It is unacceptable and un-American. I am calling on the Secret Service to IMMEDIATELY increase its protection for President Trump to the *same* level it is providing Biden. There is no excuse not to do so at this time. But there is also a deeper sickness in our country that we must heal. America is skating on thin ice, and I thank God that we have averted tragedy twice now this summer. We can only hope that the two assassination attempts on President Trump will already be the worst things to happen this election cycle.”

Trump's vice presidential candidate JD Vance said: “I'm glad President Trump is safe. I spoke to him before the news got out and he was amazingly in good spirits. There's a lot we don't know yet, but I'm going to give my children a special hug tonight and say a prayer of thanks.”

Trump's son Donald Trump Jr. wrote: “Yes, again, folks! Shots were fired at the Trump Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida. According to local law enforcement, an AK-47 was discovered in the bushes. The Trump campaign released a statement confirming that former President Trump is safe. A suspect has reportedly been arrested.”
