For the past five years, he played the role of Nate Robinson in the Dales, but has now finally retired.

His final scenes on screen – in which he heads to the Shetland Islands – come after The Sun first announced the actor's exit earlier this year.

But while fans expected Nate's body to appear in Moira's barn after the fire, it later emerged that his departure would not be seen on screen.

Angry over the move, fans attacked Emmerdale bosses on social media.

One said: “Unfortunately, this was one of the worst departures I have seen in a long time. In my mind, Nate died in the fire.”

A second wrote: “Nate wasn't even allowed to get out of the taxi? Couldn't get off the bus? Nothing?? He wasn't even a bad character!”

“So Nate just left the village after 5 years without saying goodbye to anyone? Pretty pathetic,” said a third.

A fourth ranted: “Wait, so after all that there wasn't a proper exit scene for Nate? He didn't lie dead in a barn for days and just leave? Everyone should be fired for writing that horrible exit story.”

Meanwhile, Jurell spoke about why he had to say goodbye to Nate and leave Emmerdale after five years.

He told MirrorOnline: “It was always in the back of my mind.

“My agent was probably desperate to let me go a few years ago, but I told him it didn't feel like the right time. I'm in the right place and I'll know when the time is right.

“It never felt like the right time.”
