At least three dead and eight injured in traffic accident in Turkey

Ankara, September 16 (IANS): At least three people were reportedly killed and eight others injured in a road accident in Turkey on Monday.

A truck and a minibus collided in Ceyhan district of Adana province, the Xinhua news agency reported, citing the semi-official Anadolu news agency.

The injured were taken to hospital and an investigation into the cause of the accident was launched, Anadolu said. However, the drivers have not yet been identified.

According to official data, the number of traffic accidents resulting in deaths or injuries in Turkey rose to 235,771 in 2023, an increase of 19.2 percent over the previous year.

In 2023, a total of 6,548 deaths and 350,855 injuries were recorded in road accidents, which corresponds to an average of 18 deaths and 961 injuries per day.

Previously, on May 6, 2024, at least eight people were killed and eleven others injured in a collision between a minibus and a truck in Gaziantep.

A minibus heading towards the neighboring city of Hatay collided with a cement mixer on May 6.

Due to the force of the impact, the vehicle, which was occupied by several passengers, was crushed and fell down a slope.
