Racing 92 star arrested after second ‘violent’ attack on his wife: Planet Rugby

Racing 92 and Fiji winger Vinaya Habosi has reportedly been taken into custody following a “violent” attack on his partner.

According to reports from France, the Fijian was arrested on Sunday evening following a drunken altercation at his home in Plessis-Robinson in the Hauts-de-Seine department.

Vinaya Habosi arrested

Witnesses reported to the French publication The Parisian that an argument between Habosi and his wife led to the Racing 92 player pushing his partner, who was holding their baby in her arms at the time.

It goes on to say that after his wife fell to the ground, Habosi began hitting her on the back of the head. It is understood that his baby was not injured in the altercation, while Habosi's partner refused to be rescued by emergency services and suffered no visible injuries.

The same sources told the newspaper that the Racing 92 star was clearly drunk and claimed he neither pushed nor hit his wife.

At the time of writing, Racing 92 has not yet commented on the reports.

Habosi came on as a substitute in the club's 33-20 win over Clermont in the second round of the Top 14 on Saturday.

Not the first time

This is not the first time Habosi has allegedly been involved in domestic violence, as he joined the French club early last year after his contract with Fijian team Drua was terminated.

A complaint was lodged against the winger at Namaka Police Station following a reported assault in February last year and after careful consideration, Fijian Drua decided to terminate his contract ahead of the 2023 Super Rugby Pacific season.

“The Fijian Drua has today confirmed that the contract of player Vinaya Habosi has been terminated with immediate effect due to a serious breach of the club’s code of conduct,” the club said in a statement at the time.

“The decision was made after careful consideration and Vinaya was afforded full legal representation throughout the process. The Fijian Drua will not be commenting further on this matter.”

Habosi had signed a contract to join Racing 92 after the 2023 Rugby World Cup, but joined the team early.

He nevertheless represented the Flying Fijians at the tournament in France and has done so to this day.
