Mercedes and BMW collide with Wagon R during an alleged race on the Bandra-Worli sea link in Mumbai

The pictures showed the Mercedes with a damaged hood.

Mumbai:

Two speeding luxury cars – a Mercedes and a BMW – crashed into a taxi during an alleged race on the Bandra-Worli sea bridge in Mumbai. The accident early Sunday morning led to a traffic jam on the country's fifth longest bridge.

At around 10:20 a.m., the two cars lost control while driving fast on the sea route and crashed into the Wagon R, the app-based taxi, from behind. The taxi overturned in the impact.

The speed limit on the sea connection is 80 km/h.

A family of four – including a 10-year-old child – was reportedly travelling in the taxi, and the two luxury cars were registered to two different private companies. Police said no one was seriously injured in the accident.

The pictures showed that the Mercedes had a damaged hood, while the BMW had damage to the rear.

The drivers of the two vehicles – Tariq Chaudhary and Sehbaz Khan – were arrested and charged with attempted murder, reckless driving and other relevant offences.

Last November, three people died in an accident involving a speeding SUV on the sea route. A Toyota Innova crashed into a Mercedes late at night and rammed several other vehicles while trying to escape.
