JD Vance, who is married to an Indian woman, responds to Laura Loomer's racist attack on Harris: “I make mean chicken curry”

Amid the Democratic backlash over Laura Loomer's racially charged comments about Kamala Harris, JD Vance, who is married to an Indian-American, sought to distance himself from the controversy. The far-right political activist sparked anger with a post on X in which he claimed that a Harris presidency would turn the White House into a “curry-smelling” headquarters run from a call center – a derogatory jab at the vice president's Indian heritage.

However, Trump's running mate, who is not without controversy himself and recently made headlines with his comments about eating dogs and cats, said: “I don't like those comments.”

The social media personality, who is also a cause for concern among Republicans due to her association with Trump, recently wrote on social media: “The White House will smell like curry and White House speeches will be conducted through a call center” if Kamala Harris wins the US presidency.

When Vance, who is currently running as Donald Trump's vice presidential candidate, arrived on NBC News' “Meet the Press” on Sunday, he was asked by Loomer about the now-deleted post. “We shouldn't focus on what Laura said about Kamala Harris. We should focus on the policy and the issues,” Vance told moderator Kristen Welker, seemingly trying to avoid the subject.

When Welker asked him and his wife, Usha Vance, about the comments attacking Harris's background, the Ohio senator replied, “I don't like those comments.” He added, however, that he “doesn't search the internet for every single thing that might offend him.”

“I make a great chicken curry, [but] I don't think it's offensive for someone to talk about their dietary preferences or what they want to do in the White House,” Vance added in his statement to NBC.

JD Vance is married to Indian-American Usha Chilukuri Vance, whom he met while studying at Yale and whom he has consistently spoken highly of and even credited for his success. Usha, a lawyer, has largely avoided the limelight since Vance was selected as vice president after facing several racist attacks in the past.

JD Vance admits he made up stories about Springfield

During the presidential debate between Trump and Kamala Harris, Trump's remarks backed up JD Vance's claims that Haitian immigrants in Springfield allegedly ate dogs, cats and pets while discussing immigration.

Vance subsequently retweeted and posted similar stories about Dayton on social media, which drew strong reactions as officials dismissed them as baseless. For days, Trump's running mate has been criticized for spreading fake news. In a recent CNN interview with Dana Bash, Vance admitted to making up these stories.

“If I have to make up stories to get the American media to actually pay attention to the suffering of the American people, then I will do it,” Vance said. “Because you are letting Kamala Harris sit by and do nothing,” he added.

When Dana asked Bash, “You just said that was a story you made up,” Vance fumed and accused Bash of asking a truly disgusting question when she pointed out that there was no evidence to support his stories and mentioned that the made-up stories had even led to bomb threats in Springfield.
