Hundreds of mourners gathered in Kisawo village to say goodbye to four members of a family who died in a tragic road accident.

The victims are Moses Ssemwogerere, 42, his wife Rebecca Arinaitwe, 41, and their two children, Winfred, 12, and two-year-old Samuel.

Isaac Ddamulira, Ssemwogerere’s brother, described the tragic details of the accident that killed the entire family.

The fatal accident occurred on the night of September 1, when Ssemwogerere and his family were traveling to Tsomo, where his wife worked as a teacher.

“When they reached Buttaworth in the Eastern Cape, another car, whose driver was apparently drunk, came into their lane and collided with them,” Ddamulira explained.

Deceased are honored as believing Christians

After the accident, the family's vehicle was thrown off the road and crashed into a valley, where police later recovered the bodies.

Ssemwogerere and Arinaitwe were both respected teachers who had lived and worked in South Africa for 17 years.

Ddamulira described the couple as devout Christians who had gone to church just hours before the accident.

“The couple we are saying goodbye to today have always been God fearing. They have always turned to prayer to overcome all challenges,” he said.

The Ssemwogerere family had plans to return home

During the service, it was announced that the family had planned to return to Uganda in December for the first time since leaving for South Africa in 2007.

Ssemwogerere's mother, Alice Nalubega, tearfully expressed that the tragic accident had deprived her of the long-awaited reunion.

“I was expecting my son, his wife and my grandchildren to come home this December, but it was God’s plan for that not to happen,” Nalubega said.

Elsewhere, Moi Girls Sindo mourns the loss of a fourth-grade student named Sophy, who died just months before her final exams.

During the funeral, students were overwhelmed with emotion as they watched the coffin being lowered

They crowded around the grave and wept bitterly. They could not believe that their friend was no longer there.
