House guest arrested for attacking host during dinner

A man has been sent to prison for “brutally” attacking an old school friend during dinner.

Mark Maxted was sentenced to eight years in prison for the sustained attack in the victim's home.

The 54-year-old was staying at his victim's home in Rainworth, Nottinghamshire, in March 2022 and had bought some food for the couple.

But when his friend refused the food, Maxted headbutted him, punched and strangled him, bit his hand when his victim tried to defend himself, and then hit him on the head and knees with a glass bottle.

Maxted then fled the scene, leaving his victim with injuries to his face and knee.

He also had to undergo several operations due to an injury to his hand.

Maxted was arrested by the police shortly afterwards.

He denied the charge of wounding with intent but was found guilty at a trial at Nottingham Crown Court in June this year.

On September 9, Maxted, of Harrison Road, Mansfield, was sentenced to eight years in prison and told he would have to serve a further four years' probation.

He was also given an indefinite restraining order prohibiting him from having any further contact with his victim and was fined £190.

Detective Constable Chloe Baugh said she was pleased Maxted had been locked up for “a brutal attack”.

She said: “Maxted’s reaction to the slightest perceived insult was breathtakingly excessive.

“This behavior simply cannot go unpunished and has absolutely no place in our communities.”
