I found an AirTag hidden in my car while my husband was away for a wedding – is he stalking me?

A woman has revealed how she discovered her husband had hidden an Apple AirTag in their car during a three-week trip.

On the British parenting platform Mumsnet, the woman explained that her husband had bought a few AirTags before his trip to pack in his luggage – and must then have decided to place one in their car as well.

She said her phone informed her that the device was tracking her movements and when it asked her to “play a sound,” it beeped in the back seat.

She asked on the forum what others thought about the situation and whether she should be worried.

Many left their own thoughts in the comments, with some saying she should “have some fun with it and teach him a lesson.”

The post read: “I don’t know if I [am being unreasonable] or not, but my husband went abroad for three weeks to his brother's wedding and left me at home with the children, our youngest is only 13 weeks old.

“He had been gone since Sunday night and today, just as I was returning from school, I received a tracker notification on my phone saying that an AirTag tracker had been detected and showing me all the places on the map where I had been that morning.”

She says she was 'v“I was very confused at first,” but added that she knew “100 percent” it had been placed in her car “because it showed all the places I had been that morning and when I pressed play sound I could hear it beeping in the back of my car!”

On the UK parenting platform, the woman explained that her husband bought a few AirTags to pack in his luggage before his trip and then decided to put one in their car as well.

The woman suspected: “He obviously hid it the day before his trip when he wanted to fill up my car before he left.”

“I'm just so upset and I don't know why. If it was for safety reasons because he wasn't home, surely he would have told me before he put it in there, right?”

She suggested that he might be “spying on her and following her, or could it be that he is actually thinking about his safety?”

The woman was suggested to hide the device in different places to play games with her partner.

Many left their own thoughts in the comments, with some saying she should “have some fun with it and teach him a lesson.”

Another said: “Find it and then drop it on a bus or something. Then when he questions you about where you've been, you'll know he did it for nefarious reasons and didn't just drop it by accident.”

Others suspected that the device might have fallen from his suitcase into their car.

One person said: “I wonder though if you have ruled out the possibility that it accidentally fell out of one of his bags, since you say he has never had one before and bought it before a trip to keep his luggage safe/trackable?”

“I mean, I just think there might be a simple explanation for this that we're missing.”

The woman replied, “If I go out now, I'll find out exactly where it is. Then I'll know for sure. But I really don't think it was an accident. I'm sure he put it there on purpose.”

Others said she should report it to the police because stalking is a crime and to teach him a lesson.

One person said: “I would assume it wasn't your husband and report you have a stalker to the police. It would be interesting to see your husband's face when he realizes that his actions (assuming it was him) are now part of a criminal investigation.”

Don't attach it to any car, but have fun driving it to any places that would upset him, or you might not get in trouble if you accidentally left it on a bus…'
