Tragic mother breaks her silence after her teenage son died in horrific double crash with a motorcyclist

  • Broc Dawson, 17, killed in car crash

A heartbroken mother remembers her teenage son as a “kind, generous soul” who dreamed of becoming a pilot before he died in a tragic plane crash.

Broc Dawson, 17, was driving on Aura Boulevard in Bells Creek on Queensland's Sunshine Coast at 1.15am on Saturday when his Toyota Corolla was struck by a motorcycle that failed to yield the right of way at an intersection.

Broc and the motorcyclist – a 32-year-old man from Morayfield – died at the scene, while the teenager's 16-year-old male passenger was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Krystn Dawson said her son had only recently received his P-plate and was “so excited” to be able to go out with his friends without her by his side.

She said her son was driving home with his best friend when an “asshole” “ran a red light at ridiculous speed” and “took my child away from me forever.”

“My son was a kind, generous soul who had his whole life ahead of him,” she wrote on Facebook.

“In the short time he was with us, he touched the hearts of many people… He wanted to be a pilot and was well on his way to becoming one.”

“You will never fully understand what we go through unless you have been in that situation yourself.”

“Please spend time with your loved ones and tell them how much they mean to you before you never get the chance again.”

Tributes have poured in online for Broc, a student at Caloundra Christian College who was remembered as a “good friend” who enjoyed mountain biking.

A makeshift shrine has been erected at the crash site and friends have laid flowers and candles in memory of Broc.

“I will miss you forever, Broc,” one friend wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of more than a dozen of his friends gathered at the memorial.

“Still doesn't feel real, rest G,” said another friend.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe campaign to support Broc's devastated family has raised $20,766 of a total of $60,000 since it was launched on Sunday.

Cooper Martin, a family friend and organizer, said the donations would help cover the cost of Broc's funeral and “all related expenses” to ensure the teenager gets the send-off he deserves.

Queensland Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident, including whether speed played a role.

Anyone with footage of the motorcycle before the accident is asked to contact police.
