There should have been a big celebration at the last event of the International Road Racing Championship. Instead, an absolute horror crash caused a huge tragedy.

Shortly after the start of the Superbike race at the Frohburger Dreieck in Saxony (D) on Saturday evening, the Italian Ducati rider Luca Salvadori was killed.

The organizers announced on Sunday that the 32-year-old had suffered internal injuries in the fall. These were injuries that could not be repaired despite rapid first aid on site and subsequent medical treatment in hospital.

German driver was lucky in misfortune

According to media reports, the circumstances of the accident still need to be investigated more closely. However, it seems that the German local hero Didier Grams stumbled on the fast left-hand bend in front of the paddock, which subsequently proved fatal for Salvadori. Grams was lucky in his misfortune and escaped with broken bones.

Despite the Italian's death, the races scheduled for Sunday were carried out in agreement between the organizer and the race management. However, the pilots and teams were free to decide whether they wanted to take part or not.
