Mother makes shocking discovery in her daughter's car after she was stabbed to death by her abusive husband during Bible study

A Minnesota woman who was stabbed to death by her husband during Bible study had divorce papers in her car, her mother said.

Robert Castillo, 41, was sentenced to 33 years in prison on Friday after pleading guilty to one count of first-degree murder earlier this year.

On March 21, 2023, Castillo stabbed his 41-year-old wife, Corrina Woodhull, over 20 times while the two attended a Bible study at a family member's home.

In her victim impact statement, Woodhull's mother, Linda Castle, said she found divorce papers inside when she went to get her belongings out of the car, KSTP reported.

“She knew it was time to go, and that's why she's dead,” Castle said.

The couple attended a weekly Bible study at Castillo's sister's home in the 1000 block of Maryland Avenue East in St. Paul.

Castillo stabbed Woodhull up to 20 times with a 6-inch blade after he whispered something in her ear and she shook her head in denial.

After the knife attack, the mother of five children begged them not to let her die, according to witnesses.

Before the stabbing, Castillo's sister said the two were “acting normally” and he held her hand and kissed her, according to the Pioneer Press.

His sister and brother saw Castillo stab Woodhull with a hunting knife. Woodhull tried to grab Castillo by the hair to pull him away from her, but family members had to intervene and pull him away, his sister said.

Woodhull was found lying on the ground with serious injuries to her upper body, chest and arms and was taken to Regions Hospital. The mother of five was pronounced dead upon arrival.

While speaking with investigators, he asked if Woodhull was “okay” and shook his head in disbelief when he was told she had died.

Before his sentence was announced, Castillo apologized in court and claimed he took “full responsibility.”

“I am truly sorry and I hope that one day you can forgive me,” Castillo said.

“It was a real struggle for me to forgive myself for taking the life of my wife, my best friend.”

At the time of the stabbing, there was a warrant out for Castillo's arrest after he failed to appear for a pretrial hearing in connection with the attack on a police officer at the Washington County Jail.

Castillo has an extensive criminal record: he is charged with eight capital crimes, including assault, burglary and weapons possession.

He was also convicted of hitting another woman with a hammer in his sister's house and received a ten-year prison sentence.
