Piedmont police arrest man for allegedly shooting girlfriend in the head; drug charges cited

Piedmont police arrested a man on Saturday who allegedly murdered his girlfriend during a domestic dispute.

The suspect, 42-year-old Damien Michael Bailey of Piedmont, Alabama, is charged with murder, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Piedmont police said they responded to reports of a gunshot victim on Hughes Street in Piedmont.

When officers arrived at the scene, they were led into a bedroom of the residence where they found a female victim with a gunshot wound to the head.

The victim was breathing but unresponsive.

First responders from the Piedmont Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services rendered aid and transported her to a nearby hospital for further treatment, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators concluded that the incident began with a verbal argument between the victim and Bailey, which ended with Bailey shooting the victim in the head.

The name of the victim has not been released at this time.

Damien Bailey is being held without bail in the Calhoun County Jail awaiting an Aniyah's Law hearing in Calhoun County Court.

Piedmont Police continue to investigate this case.
