Trump is safe after shooting on golf course in Florida; suspect arrested

(CNN) — The Trump campaign team said on Sunday that former President Donald Trump was “safe following the shooting near him.”

“President Trump is safe following the shooting near him. No further details are available at this time,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement, giving no further details.

According to a law enforcement source, one person was arrested in connection with the incident at Trump International Golf Club.

Several sources said the Secret Service shot the suspect.

Sources familiar with the matter believe that an armed person intended to attack Trump.

The former president was playing golf at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. The course was immediately closed, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The Secret Service said on X that it was working with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office to investigate a security incident involving Trump. The Secret Service said the incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have been briefed on the security incident involving Trump and are both “relieved to know he is safe,” the White House said.

“I have been informed of reports that shots were fired near former President Trump and his Florida estate, and I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America,” Harris said. wrote on the social media platform X.

Biden and Harris, who are both in Washington, DC, and have no public events on Sunday, will be kept updated by their team.
