Detroit man charged in Roseville shooting stemming from driving aggression incident – Macomb Daily

A Detroit man has been charged in a shooting that stemmed from a road rage incident in Roseville two weeks ago, police said Friday.

Carlos Emanuel Hernandez-Acosta, 37, was arraigned in 39th District Court on charges of assault with intent to murder and other crimes. Visiting Judge Teddy Metry set bail at $80,000 cash/surety.

If convicted, Hernandez-Acosta faces life in prison for assault.

According to police, a motorist was shot after an early morning encounter in the area of 11 Mile and Hayes roads on August 30. The victim was treated and released from the hospital the same day, police said.

“Officers learned that an unknown individual fired numerous shots at another motorist, hitting him once,” Police Chief Mitch Berlin said in a press release.

The victim told officers he was involved in a DUI incident that began near eastbound Interstate 94 Nine Mile Road when one driver cut off another. The suspect allegedly fired the first shot and continued to pursue the victim.

Investigators said the attacked driver exited Interstate 696 at the Groesbeck Highway, whereupon the suspect pulled up next to him and fired numerous more shots before driving away.

According to the press release, investigators began investigating the case despite having only a vague description of the suspect vehicle. Using FLOCK technology, a license plate reader, they identified the suspect vehicle.

Detectives searched the area around 12 Mile and Groesbeck, where they knew the suspect's vehicle was frequently located, and found one of the vehicles registered to the suspect vehicle parked in front of a business in the area of 12 Mile and Calahan Road.

Police arrested Hernandez-Acosta at his workplace without incident on Thursday. He was taken to the Macomb County Jail, where he is currently being held.

.Roseville investigators obtained additional information and executed a search warrant at a Detroit residence. They seized several firearms, body armor and the suspect's vehicle, which was covered and hidden in a garage at the residence, the news release said.

In addition to the assault charge, Hernandez-Acosta was also charged with criminal damage, tampering with evidence, two counts of possession of a firearm, and reckless use of a firearm.
