Trump attacks Taylor Swift with ‘hate’ message on Truth Social

Apparently, Donald Trump is not worried about losing votes for Swift.

On Sunday, five days after the world's biggest pop star endorsed his 2024 opponent, Kamala Harris, the former president hit back with a blunt, all-caps post on his Truth Social platform: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”

Less than eight weeks before the presidential election, this post is likely to alienate millions of the singer's loyal fans.

On Tuesday, following the presidential debate, Swift announced that she plans to vote for Harris and her running mate Tim Walz in November. She added that she wanted to clarify her position after Trump suggested she might support Republicans by sharing fake, AI-generated images. In an Instagram post, Swift said she would vote for Harris because “she fights for the rights and causes that I believe need a warrior to represent them.”

“We can accomplish so much more in this country when we are guided by calm, not chaos,” Swift wrote, signing her post “Taylor Swift, childless cat lady,” as a dig at Trump's vice presidential candidate JD Vance.

Swift's post included a link to register to vote on Vote.gov, and in the following 24 hours, about 406,000 people clicked on it, showing the star's reach.

In an interview with Fox News following Swift's endorsement, Trump told Fox News that the singer would “probably pay a price in the market” for her stance, adding that he was not a fan.

A few days later, the Trump team began selling new T-shirts that appeared to be a knockoff of the poster from Swift's billion-dollar “Eras” tour, touting the merchandise as the “Trump Era Shirt.”

It's not the first time Trump has clashed with celebrities, but his direct attack on Swift adds a dramatic subplot to an already turbulent election season. Swift has encouraged voter turnout and advocated for progressive policies before, but her support for Harris is her highest-profile political statement yet.

As the election approaches, the fallout from the dispute could mobilize both Swift's fans and Trump's voting base even more, leaving Trump's supporters, who are also Swifties, with an impossible choice.
