One dead after shooting at Knights of Columbus Hall in Owensboro

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) – The Daviess County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred overnight in Owensboro.

At around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, emergency crews received a report of a “disturbance” involving multiple people at the Knights of Columbus Hall in the 3500 block of East 10th Street in east Owensboro.

DCSO officers said they arrived at the scene and found an unconscious man in the parking lot with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.

According to a sheriff's report, officers attempted to save the person's life through CPR until an ambulance and other medical units arrived.

According to the sheriff's office, the person was taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital and died a short time later.

According to investigators, numerous pieces of evidence were collected and recorded as evidence, including what is believed to be the firearm used in the shooting.

We're told a person who identified himself to officers as the shooter remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

According to DCSO, the suspected shooter and several witnesses were taken to the sheriff's office for questioning.

Investigators assume that this was an isolated incident and that there was no danger to the public.

The name of the deceased person has not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
