Crashed into a tree! Driver trapped in head-on crash

Aldenhoven- A 65-year-old driver was seriously injured in a collision with a tree on Saturday afternoon in Aldenhoven (Düren district).

According to police reports, the man was driving his car on Saturday afternoon on the L228 from Merzenhausen towards Aldenhoven.

On a straight stretch of road, he suddenly veered off the road to the left – apparently without any other vehicles being involved – and crashed into a tree.

The 65-year-old was trapped in his car by the force of the accident. The fire brigade rushed to the scene and freed the seriously injured from the wreckage. He was then flown to Aachen University Hospital by rescue helicopter.

The recovery of the completely destroyed car took all afternoon.

An accident investigation team from the Düsseldorf police was also on site to provide support and secure evidence.

Meanwhile, the L228 was temporarily closed in both directions. Investigations into the exact cause of the accident are ongoing.
