Iran-backed Houthis fire missile that lands near Tel Aviv

Through its Telegram channel, the Iran-backed terrorist group warned that its military spokesman would soon announce details of a “qualitative operation aimed at the depths of the Zionist entity.”

This incident comes as the Houthis continue their blockade of the Red Sea region, which they began in November on the orders of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.

Originally aimed at attacking and hijacking Israel-affiliated vessels to force a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the group has since expanded its attacks to target international shipping on the trade route.

Dozens of hostages from all over the world were taken and missiles were fired at several international ships.

In recent weeks, a Yemeni drone struck a residential building in central Tel Aviv; its target was believed to be the US embassy on the city's waterfront.

Sunday's attack is the first time the Houthis have fired a missile deep into Israeli airspace. Most of those missiles have been shot down, although one hit an open area near Israel's Red Sea port of Eilat in March.

Since Hamas invaded Israel on October 7, killing around 1,100 mostly civilians, Iran's proxies on Israel's borders and Iraq's have surrounded the Jewish state. The worst conflict has been on Israel's northern border, where Hezbollah has carried out almost daily bombardments.

Since October 7, more than 6,000 missiles have been fired at northern Israel by Iran's largest proxy. More than 60,000 Israelis have been forced to flee their homes, and about the same number have been displaced in southern Lebanon.
