Man fights for his life after stabbing in nightclub

“A 31-year-old man from Endeavour Hills sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“The two offenders fled the area before police arrived. They were last seen walking along Macquarie Street.”

A spokesman for Alfred Hospital told AAP the victim was still in a critical but stable condition.

The nightclub was temporarily closed and Sunday night's performance by electronic music duo Bag Raiders was cancelled. Management released a statement on social media saying they were “heartbroken” by the incident.

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this terrible event,” the statement said.

“Revolver’s highest priority has always been the safety of our customers, artists and employees.”

Founded in 1997, Revolver Upstairs is something of an institution in Melbourne's dance scene and is home to DJs and bands six nights a week.

The nightclub is open 24 hours a day on a typical weekend, from Friday afternoon to Monday morning.

The investigation is ongoing.

This is the second knife attack in a nightclub within a few weeks.

Six men were arrested after an 18-year-old man was stabbed to death outside the Love Machine nightclub, about 500 meters from Revolver, on August 16 after a fight spilled from the club onto the street.
