Malik Willis replaced the injured Jordan Love

The Green Bay Packers will initially be without their quarterback Jordan Love. As the team announced, Love was downgraded to “doubtful” on Saturday, which significantly reduces his chances of playing on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

Love suffered an MCL sprain in his left knee last week in the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. Although he was unable to practice, he was initially listed as questionable. The initial prognosis for his recovery is three to four weeks. However, the Packers decided not to place him on the injured reserve list as they hope he will miss fewer than four games.

Malik Willis is expected to start the game against the Colts. The Packers have also promoted Sean Clifford from the practice squad to serve as a backup. Willis joined the Packers on August 26th through a trade with the Tennessee Titans. In his rookie season in 2022, he made three starts for the Titans, with the team recording a 1-2 record. It's notable that Willis didn't throw for more than 100 yards in any of these games.

The Packers are now banking on Willis' potential to fill the void left by Love. Whether he can lead the team to a win remains to be seen.
