Knife attacker also charged in car theft cases | Western Colorado

A man accused of stabbing two people late last week – one of them allegedly his mother – was also arrested in separate car theft cases in 2022 and 2023.

Scott Lorman, 40, was arrested in Delta County after causing a car crash in the early morning hours Friday. The vehicle was believed to have been stolen from one of the victims after two of his family members were hospitalized.

Lorman is charged with first-degree assault, second-degree kidnapping, third-degree auto theft, attempted criminal conduct, aggravated robbery and violation of a protective order.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office responded to two locations late Thursday night where two people were attacked. The victims are a married couple, and the woman told police her son, Lorman, attacked them both and was acting erratically.

According to the arrest affidavit, Lorman was located after the car crash in Delta County, where he had driven from Mesa County through Grand Mesa.

Including the alleged stabbing, four criminal cases are currently pending in Lorman's 21st Judicial District.

In August, Lorman was arrested and charged with intimidation of a witness (a felony) and tampering with evidence, violating a protective order and harassment (all misdemeanors). The charges were filed after his mother told police she believed he jumped the fence into her backyard and violated a restraining order against him. According to the affidavit, there were several cases against Lorman in which his mother was the victim.

In October 2023, Lorman was arrested and charged with second-degree auto theft after he stole a rental car from an acquaintance, according to police. Police said Lorman tried to drive the car away from the acquaintance's house, but a wheel fell off.

In August 2022, Lorman was arrested and charged with first-degree grand theft of a motor vehicle after his probation officer reported to police that Lorman had arrived at his office in a pickup truck that had been reported stolen in Boulder County.

Lorman was also arrested and charged with attempted first-degree assault and aggravated menacing following a standoff with police at a residence in the 600 block of Saddle Rock Drive in January 2020.

This is the same address where last Thursday's incident began.

In this incident, Lorman is accused of kidnapping his mother and her husband before both jumped out of the vehicle at different locations.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office was notified at 9:49 p.m. when the male victim requested assistance at the Stop N Save at 3223 F Road.

After jumping out of the vehicle, the female victim went to a neighbor's house to call the police.

Both victims were taken to hospital with injuries.

Lorman is being held at the Mesa County Detention Facility on $1 million bail.
