3 dead in week of violent shootings – NBC New York

According to police, there were three shootings on Friday night in which one person was killed and several others were injured. Two of the crime scenes were only a few blocks away from each other.

The New York Police Department said officers were investigating three shootings that all occurred within less than three hours and came shortly after two fatal shootings in the area a few days earlier.

Shortly before midnight, a 42-year-old man was grazed in the head by a bullet in a corner store near 180th Street and the Grand Concourse. The bullet shattered the store door.

Police were reportedly looking for a man walking his dog, wearing a black hat and grey shirt and having a beard.

About 30 minutes earlier, a 44-year-old man was shot on Williamsbridge Road near Jacobi Medical Center, according to police. The man was being treated at that hospital for a gunshot wound to the chest and was expected to recover.

The shooter may have fled in a white SUV.

The first shooting of the night occurred around 9:30 p.m., just around the corner from the shooting before midnight on the Grand Concourse. Police responded to the shooting of a 24-year-old man on Anthony Avenue. He was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his back and did not survive his injuries, police said.

No arrests were made in any of the three shootings on Friday evening.

A few days earlier, police had announced that 35-year-old Juan Lluverez had been shot on Tuesday at the corner of East Burnside and Jerome Avenue. Then on Wednesday, 32-year-old Rafael Vasquz was shot.

A memorial to Lluverez is growing in East Burnside. His family told News 4 he was hardworking and plans to travel to the Dominican Republic soon. He is also looking forward to starting a family.
