Shootings in Chicago over the weekend leave one dead and nine injured, police say

CHICAGO (CBS) — At least one person was killed and nine others injured in shootings across Chicago, police said.

The age of the victims ranges from 16 to 67 years.

Friday's shootings

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 27-year-old man was walking in the 6000 block of South Lasalle Street around 10:15 p.m. when he saw a group of men standing in the street, one of whom shot at the victim.

The victim was hit in the neck and was able to transport himself to St. Benard Hospital in good condition.

About an hour later, at around 11:13 p.m., another 27-year-old man was a passenger in a vehicle in the 4700 block of West Lake Street when someone fired shots from a blue sedan in the area.

The victim was hit in the chest and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, but died a short time later.

Shootings on Saturday

  • At 12:19 a.m., a 30-year-old man was standing in an alley in the 4400 block of North Kedzie Avenue when another man shot at him and then fled the scene on foot. The victim was shot in the abdomen and taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where he was reported to be in fair condition.
  • At 12:27 a.m., a man and woman were standing in the street celebrating in the 5200 block of North Winthrop Avenue when shots were fired in the area by unknown suspects and both victims were struck by gunfire. The 44-year-old man sustained three gunshot wounds to his left leg and was transported to Swedish Hospital on his own in good condition. The 38-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound to her lower back and was also transported to Swedish Hospital in good condition.
  • At 12:34 a.m., a 21-year-old woman was driving a vehicle in the 3800 block of West North Avenue when someone fired shots in the area, causing the victim to suffer a graze wound to the right side of the head. The victim was taken to Mt Sinai Hospital in good condition.
  • At 1:39 a.m., two men were standing on the sidewalk in separate locations in the 0-100 block of East Wacker Drive when an unknown suspect fired shots in the area. A 24-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and taken to Northwestern Hospital in good condition. The second man, 67, was shot in the right thigh and taken to Northwestern Hospital in good condition.
  • At 11:40 a.m., a 16-year-old boy was standing in the 0-100 block of West 111th Street when a blue SUV pulled up and began shooting. The victim was shot twice in the lower body and taken to Christ Hospital in good condition.
  • At 12:21 p.m., a 22-year-old man was walking in the 5700 block of South Aberdeen Street when an unknown suspect began shooting behind him. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition with two gunshot wounds to the lower body.

Unless otherwise noted, no arrests were made in the shootings.
