Shootings in Chicago this weekend: CPD says at least 10 people were shot, one fatally, while the city is busy with Mexican Independence Day events

Two men were injured in a shooting in Chicago early Saturday morning in the 0-100 block of East Wacker Drive, police said.

CHICAGO– According to police, at least ten people were shot, one fatally, in gun violence in Chicago this weekend.

Man shot in car in West Garfield Park, police say

A man was fatally shot in a vehicle on the city's West Side late Friday night, Chicago police said.

Police said the shooting occurred shortly before 11:15 p.m. in the 4700 block of West Lake Street in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

Someone fired shots from a blue sedan, hitting a 27-year-old man who was riding in another vehicle, police said.

Police said the victim, who was shot in the chest, was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead.

No one is in custody and Area Four detectives are investigating.

Police did not initially provide any further information about the shooting.

Man and woman shot at street festival in Edgewater, police said

Two people were shot early Saturday morning during a street festival on the city's north side, Chicago police said.

Police said the shooting occurred shortly before 12:30 a.m. in the 5200 block of North Winthrop Avenue in the Edgewater neighborhood.

A 44-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were standing in the street celebrating when someone fired shots, police said.

The man, who suffered three gunshot wounds to the leg, and the woman, who was shot in the lower back, were taken to Swedish Hospital in good condition.

No one is in custody and Area Five detectives are investigating.

Police did not initially provide any further information about the shooting.

Two men shot on sidewalk in Loop, police say

Two men were shot in downtown Chicago early Saturday morning, police said.

Police said the shooting occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. in the Loop in the 0-100 block of East Wacker Drive.

Two men, aged 24 and 67, were standing on the sidewalk at different locations when someone fired shots, police said.

The 24-year-old with the gunshot wound in the buttocks and the 67-year-old with the gunshot wound in the thigh were taken to Northwestern Hospital in good condition.

No one is in custody and detectives from Area Three are investigating.

Police did not initially provide any further information about the shooting.
