Manhunt in North Carolina for angry customer who shot Waffle House employee

LAURINBURG, NC — Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Friday morning at a Waffle House in Laurinburg. The victim, identified as Burlie Dawson Locklear, 18, was shot while working at the restaurant.

Laurinburg Police officers responded to reports of shots fired at the Waffle House on Scotland Crossing Drive around 12:42 a.m. When they arrived, they found Locklear inside the restaurant suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Scotland Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

According to investigators, the suspect, described as a light-skinned black man with long dreadlocks, facial hair and wearing a dark blue hoodie, became agitated after ordering food. As he left the restaurant and approached his vehicle, he turned around and fired two shots, one of which struck Locklear.

The suspect fled the scene in a dark gray Chevrolet, believed to be a 2014 model, toward West Boulevard. The investigation is ongoing and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Laurinburg Police or submit anonymous tips through Scotland Crimestoppers.

  • Shooting on 13th Street in Philadelphia under investigation

    PHILADELPHIA — A 33-year-old man was shot in the ankle at the intersection of 13th and Walnut streets early Saturday morning, police said. Officers from the 9th Precinct arrived at the scene around 4:11 a.m. after receiving a radio call about the shooting.

    When police arrived, they found the victim with a gunshot wound to his right ankle. He was transported by Medic 35 to Jefferson Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

    Officers secured the crime scene at 1300 Walnut Street, and found evidence of blood in the area. The Philadelphia Police Department's Shooting Investigations Group is leading the investigation.

  • Teenager charged after fatal traffic crash on Henry Hudson Parkway that left two people dead

    MANHATTAN, NY — A 17-year-old boy has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal car crash on the Henry Hudson Parkway last month that left two people dead, authorities said.

    The collision occurred at approximately 2:21 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024. According to police, a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado driven by the 17-year-old suspect and a 2019 Toyota Rav4 were traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the Henry Hudson Parkway near West 165th Street. The Chevrolet struck a 2021 Dodge Challenger driven by a 38-year-old man and then a 2018 Audi S3 driven by a 27-year-old man.

    The impact of the Chevrolet caused debris to be thrown into the Toyota Rav4. The 17-year-old driver and a 21-year-old male passenger of the Chevrolet fled from the vehicle, which then burst into flames.

    The 38-year-old driver of the Dodge was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His 40-year-old passenger was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem and also pronounced dead. The 21-year-old passenger of the Chevrolet was treated in stable condition at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem. The occupants of the Audi, a 27-year-old driver and a 28-year-old passenger, were taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
