Shots were fired and a house was set on fire in an attack in Charleville, Co Cork – The Irish Times

Gardaí are investigating a case of criminal damage following a fire at a terraced house in the Fortlands area of ​​Charleville, Co Cork, which occurred on Friday evening.

Shortly before 9 p.m., rescue workers were called to the building. A group of men wearing balaclavas had smashed windows and tried to set the empty building on fire. Shots were also fired inside the building.

The house was badly damaged in the incident.

An Garda Síochána confirmed that crime scene investigators attended the house and examined the premises. The house was unoccupied at the time of the incident and investigations are ongoing.

Gardaí are also investigating a case of criminal damage to a car which occurred later that evening at around 9.55pm in the Rathgoggin area of ​​Charleville.

It is believed that the incident occurred during a dispute between two families in County Limerick and Charleville.

Shots were fired at a vacant house in Kilmallock on Friday morning, and an incendiary device was also thrown at a property in Knocknaheeny in Cork city earlier this week.

Numerous files on various incidents that occurred during the feud were sent to the public prosecutor's office.

Members of the public who may have noticed any unusual activity in the Charleville area between 5pm and 11pm on Friday have been asked to contact investigating Gardaí.

Gardaí are also appealing for information about an Audi A6, a white Skoda Rapid, a BMW and a silver Ford Focus that were driving through the Charleville area at the time.

Any road users or pedestrians who were in the area at the time and may have camera footage (including dashboard cameras) are asked to please provide it to the Gardaí.
