Report of attack on Virginia Tech campus under investigation

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) – Virginia Tech police are searching for the person responsible for a reported assault early Saturday, according to a notice sent to students.

Just before 2 a.m. on Sept. 14, police received a report of an assault in progress in the area of ​​the Moss Arts Center that may have involved a knife being brandished. According to police, a “secure in place” status was initiated until police secured the area. The incident appeared to have started on South Main Street and the victim was able to escape the attacker.

According to police, the attacker is described as a 5'6″ tall, 165 lb., stocky Hispanic man. He had short black hair and was wearing a light-colored striped polo shirt and shorts.

Students were told that Virginia Tech police, with assistance from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and Blacksburg Police, “immediately searched the area and initiated a manhunt” but no one matching the suspect's description was found.

According to police, their information indicates that the incident began as an argument between two people. They do not believe there is a danger to the community.
