BJP's Sudhanshu Trivedi condemns alleged attack on journalists in US

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sudhanshu Trivedi on Saturday criticised an alleged incident in the United States in which a journalist was allegedly attacked by an aide of Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sudhanshu Trivedi on Saturday criticised an alleged incident in which a journalist in the US was attacked by an aide of Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi. The journalist was reportedly being questioned about Bangladeshi Hindus. Trivedi noted that the incident reflected the true mindset of the Congress party.

“During Rahul Gandhi's visit to the US, a journalist was attacked, his phone was confiscated and his interview was forcibly deleted. This shows the true mentality of the Congress. Rahul Gandhi travels abroad after every session of Parliament, makes anti-India statements and meets people with anti-India intentions,” Trivedi said.

Condemnation of statements on caste

The BJP leader also condemned Gandhi for his comments on casteism made to the media at a recent event in the US.

“He talks about casteism in the media to demoralise Indian journalists and then his team attacks them in the US. I want to ask Rahul Gandhi on whose orders this happened? The opposition is gaining a little power and we are already seeing the arrogance of Congress workers attacking people when they are asked questions. Why did you feel provoked by a question about Bangladeshi Hindus?” Trivedi added.

Rahul Gandhi’s US visit and remarks

During his visit to the US, Rahul Gandhi had spoken of abolishing the reservation system in India once the country becomes a “fair place”. This was done while addressing students and faculty at Georgetown University in Washington, DC on September 9.

He also reiterated the need for a caste census, arguing that 90 percent of the country's population – OBCs, Dalits and Adivasis – are not adequately represented, calling it “an elephant in the room.”

“When we talk about institutional, corporate and media takeover, the elephant in the room is that 90 percent of India's OBCs, Dalits and Adivasis are not even part of the game. That is really the elephant in the room,” Gandhi said.

He further stressed that the INDIA alliance wants to protect the Constitution and that most partners in the bloc support the idea of a caste census. He added that “two businessmen” should not control every company in the country.

Clarification on the allegations

It is important to note that these allegations are based on Trivedi's statements and the incident has not been independently confirmed.
