Annandale man charged with stabbing and killing his wife during an argument

An Annandale man has been charged with stabbing and killing his wife during an argument.

Rodney Allen Andersen, 85, was charged with second-degree murder for killing his wife early Thursday morning, which carries a maximum sentence of 40 years.

According to court documents, police were called to the 30 block of Knollwood Street West in Annandale at 9:54 a.m. after Andersen called 911 to report that he had stabbed his wife.

Annandale police arrived and attempted unsuccessfully to get Andersen to leave the house. Officers then entered the house and found Andersen sitting on the steps with his hands on his head.

Authorities discovered a woman lying on her back on the kitchen floor, her body covered in blood. Officers later identified her as Andersen's 82-year-old wife.

The officers began to resuscitate the woman's still warm body and found several stab wounds on her stomach. Life-saving measures were unsuccessful and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to court documents, police found a large kitchen knife in the sink that appeared to have blood on it.

Andersen was taken to the Annandale Police Department, where he told officers that he and the woman had been married for over 65 years and had argued often. During the argument Thursday morning, Andersen told officers, “I think I lost my head.”

He stated that he did not know how many times he stabbed his wife, but he knew that he stabbed her at least once.

Andersen's next court date is scheduled for September 19.
