Chargers vs. Panthers Final Score Prediction for NFL Week 2 (Can the Panthers win a

The 2024 season got off to a terrible start for the Carolina Panthers as they were defeated by the New Orleans Saints in Week 1.

Now, as a clear underdog, Carolina will try to rebound from a 1-0 loss at home to the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chargers defeated the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1 in a low-scoring game, resulting in a fairly low overall odds score in this matchup.

Can we predict the final result of this game based on the latest odds? Even if the final result is not correct, it could help bettors decide which side to bet on in Week 2.

The bookies aren't expecting much of an offense in this game, as neither team was particularly good on that side of the ball in Week 1.

The Chargers played well against the Las Vegas Raiders, but do they deserve to be considered favorites by almost a touchdown?

SI Betting NFL insider Iain MacMillan explained in his Road to 272 (where he bets on every NFL game) Why bettors should consider betting on the Panthers in their home opener:

Unless your opinion of the Panthers changed drastically from last week to this week, you should be happy that the Panthers were outscored by 6.5 points at home this week. They went from being a 4-point underdog on the road in New Orleans to a 6.5-point underdog at home against the Chargers. That's a significant swing in point differential, even though the Chargers and Saints have comparable rosters in terms of talent.

There's no denying that the Panthers' Week 1 performance was abysmal and they'll most likely end up in the basement this season, but that point spread is a bit exaggerated given the sample size of a single game.

The Chargers did a good job against the Raiders, but they only had a net yards per play of +0.9 on their home field. I still rate them as a solid team, but not good enough to be considered almost a touchdown favorite on the road against any team in the NFL.

The Panthers struggled in Week 1, but last season they finished 3-4-1 against the spread as a home underdog.

That's not great, but I don't want to project the Panthers as the No. 1 pick in next offseason's draft just yet.

I'll take the points in a game that will probably see few goals.

Final Score Prediction: Chargers 20, Panthers 16
